Lipgloss
Putting on lipstick in public
I draw the lascivious gaze of an older man
Traitorous eyes drag his unwilling mind
to my glossy pink pout.
Will these lips grace some fantasy moment
alone later, perhaps,
Or with a wife
who’s body slumps beneath her years,
Or do they spark thoughts of some other girl
Become now woman,
Of things left unsaid and undone
Of other lips, unkissed or kissed too often,
and this newly lacquered mouth
only a surrogate of lust remembered
that endures where beauty has faded.
